Mae Jemison

Mae Jemison:

(Born October 17, 1956 in Decatur,Alabama) is an American physician and NASA astronaut. She became the first African American woman to travel in space when she went into orbit aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour on September 12, 1992.

She grow up in Chicago Illinoisis, she also  is a medical doctor and  she finished highschool in 16 years old.received a scholarship from Stanford University and graduated as a chemical engineer, also met the requirements for a degree in African studies and African Americans. He then studied medicine at Cornell University (1981) and joined the Peace Corps. He worked as a medical supervisor from 1983 to 1985 in Sierra Leone and Liberia, two countries in West Africa. After working at NASA from 1987 to 1993, he founded The Jemison Group, Inc., a firm that designed the ALAFIYA, a satellite telecommunications system that seeks to improve healthcare in developing nations. He is also Professor of Environmental Studies Program Dartmouth College, where he directs the Jemison Institute for Technological Advancement of Developing Countries.
